Avoidance means literally to keep away from some real or imagined threat. This chapter focuses on the conditioned character of behavior and neuroendocrine stress responses of various forms of avoidance (active and inhibitory) and fear conditioning in animals and discusses its relevance for the development of anxiety-related disorders
